new track from pierce the veil. i spent yesterday and today checking out the new album, Collide With The Sky. honestly King For A Day is still my favorite track, but i’m almost certain that it’s because i haven’t spent enough time with the other songs.

i’m mostly just thankful that the razor sharp musicianship and vic fuentes’ raging screams/boy bandish singing are all still incredibly present. really looked forward to this album for a long time [lets be honest, Selfish Machines only leaves you wanting MORE. and i mean that in a good way]. and if you’re worried about the album missing the amazing latin roots that PTV has previously shown off…. stop. there are plenty of interesting interludes that are clearly latin in origin, making the album that much more dimensional.

anyway, a new track from PTV was LEGALLY released today: Tangled In The Great Escape [featuring Jason Butler of letlive.] can be heard here:

jason butler does a GREAT job. very good voice.

cheers,

***ALSO IF ANYONE IS WONDERING…I BOUGHT THE ALBUM. I JUST RECEIVED IT WAY EARLY, APPARENTLY….hahaha.

edit: if you haven’t illegally heard the album yet [kudos to you], i’m just gonna tell you now. the bridges in almost every song are.. so much more unforgettable. like in King For A Day, the breakdowns are more ruthless and creative, while guest vocals and general bridge power have really been stepped UP.

ofmiceandmario:

Gahhhhhh I love all of you!

…except that random girl that I don’t know…but whatever!

vic fuentes, beau bokan, levi benton, kellin quinn. those are the folks i really look up to and respect as far as musicianship and vocal talent. ok, austin fits in the talent category, but the rest i either haven’t heard enough of or openly dislike in terms of music. like you, ronnie. like you.

tay jardine seems sweet though. i think i like her.

i’m gonna say this and i need it to be clear that i don’t mean this to be a racial slur at all. i just saw a comment on the new pierce the veil video Bulls In The Bronx that PTV is starting to sound like it could be called “Mexicore”.

this has absolutely been my favorite aspect of PTV. perfectly balanced with brutal lyrics, airtight musicianship, and vic fuentes’ amazing boy band voice are the constant and consistently strong nods to vic and brother mike fuentes’ hispanic heritage. i love it. i know their dad is a classical guitarist, and having both his sons pay homage to that and to their cultural background must be powerful.

here’s the new vid. i don’t think it’s as good as King For A Day, but that song is so strong it’s honestly going to be hard to top. i already preordered the album. you should do the same.

…… edit: if you’re listening to the leaked version on youtube, fine, it’s already been done. but at least BUY the album. BUY IT.

cheers,

the biggest “about freakin time” return to writing new music: pierce the veil. not everyone is a fan of vic fuentes’ fiery clean vocals, but i think he’s plenty talented. he pulls beautifully effortless bloodcurdlers in and out of a confident and unique voice.

i’ve loved pierce the veil for a long time. their particular brand of emotion-fueled post-hardcore is a comfortable balance of screaming and singing backed with talented musicianship and numerous musical nods to the fuentes brothers’ hispanic heritage.

it’s been almost exactly two years since Selfish Machines was released [june 2010] and i am unbelievably excited to hear what the boys put out next. this track in particular, King For A Day, is stunning. showcasing all of what’s good and loveable about the previous record but undeniably forward looking. for all the confidence and rage of this song, i’ll even forgive them for the three seconds of dub.

kellin quinn’s guest appearance is a great touch, though it can be hard to distinguish him from vic at times. who cares. i love them both. i can’t wait. i cannot. wait.

cheers,

edit: after a few more listens, i have to add this. but wow, kellin and vic are both wunderkinds. WOW.

comeback band of 2011: @yellowcard.

it’s been a long, winding road for yellowcard. i’ll be the first to admit that i had my doubts about the band getting back together. after all, “indefinite hiatus” is almost as painful to hear as simply “calling it quits”.

if you haven’t heard When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes, you’re missing out on one of the stronger pop-punk albums of 2011. it may not be an Ocean Avenue, and certainly not a Paper Walls, but there’s enough of what i remember liking to be confident that 2012 will be an even bigger year for the almost 13 year old band. tracks like “the sound of you and me”, second single “hang you up” [and the charming music video for it], and glorious album closer “be the young” stand out among the 10 songs released in 2011. these three alone are definitely enough to put yellowcard at the top of my list for albums to look forward to in 2012 [right next to pierce the veil, and a few others]. it sounds like the band has already begun writing, with plans to enter the studio in about a week [!!!] with neal avron. yellowcard looks to be maturing in both lyrical content and depth of musicianship more and more with each album, more than can be said for a good number of their genre-mates [i mean get your “heart on”? come on…].

fun fact: the reason i got into saves the day 10 years late but just in time for the release of the stunning cd Daybreak was because of ryan and the gang from track 3 of WYTTSY, “with you around.”

check out the official acoustic video for album closer “be the young”. excellent.
