Notice: Function _load_textdomain_just_in_time was called incorrectly. Translation loading for the challenger. probably one of the best albums of its kind that i’ve bought in YEARS. it was an enlightenment. and i can’t tear my eyes off the face on the cover. haunting. this is also one of my favorite lines off one of my favorite songs on it. hahaha this cracks me up, an excerpt from @altpress on yesterday’s email blast. but on some serious notes, i am every day more and more inspired by my brothers and sisters fueling modern metal. while so much of christian culture seems like a half-hearted, watery version of mainstream culture, christians make up some of the most well-respected and well-loved acts in metal and its subgenres. there are some amazing up-and-comers putting out the uplifting music we NEED, combating the alcoholic, drug-induced, party powered, loose nonsense put on the radio. some of them DO actually need help in the graphics department though. hire me? blergh, memphis may fire is IMPOSSIBLY talented. it’s crazy to think that a band that everyone completely gave up hope for turned it so radically around. i’ve written on them a few times, but Challenger is seriously one of the strongest new albums i’ve heard in months [and in -core, months is a LONG time, especially considering the sheer number of comparable genre albums out in the last two or three…]
honestly. matty mullins is an electrifying frontman, and his perfect screaming AND singing [trust me, he can pull it off amazingly well live] are almost a full distraction from the tight musicianship the rest of the gang puts together. if you haven’t heard Challenger… get some. cheers, not huge on these somewhat blah looking text-on-random-color posts, but i would appreciate less judgment, haha. i’ll post my other warped tour pics later. but for now, here’s one from my phone.. MEMPHIS MAY FIRE’s MATTY MULLINS tearing faces off. i’ve seen dozens of warped tour pictures now, and time and again matty mullins is probably one of the most iconic silhouettes of the tour, with his dope combover and perpetual sunglasses. i’d only heard a little of their stuff prior to seeing them in auburn on saturday, but…WOW. live is amazing. i spent most of today with Challenger on in the car. again, completely and utterly blown away. this may be a contender for best hard rock album of 2012 so far, and possibly even a contender for best album of the year. Handwritten’s previously almost certain crown may now be in danger. going back to listen to challenger some more. cheers, okay: confide, easily one of the most underrated bands of the genre. and they’re already gone.. bummer. i know their cover of Such Great Heights was a bit divisive, but overall confide was an extremely talented young band. i know joel piper’s got his own thing going [and a ton of love for it too!] but i’m not sure what’s up with the rest of the guys. regardless, Recover is a great album. good vocals, decent musicianship, great lyrics, and unforgettable hooks. i find more and more that heavy music relies on hooks just as much the breakdowns. in some cases, more. cheers, i freaking love the devil wears prada… this is common knowledge. i’ve previously avoided the Zombie EP because i’d heard it was less melodic and more straight metal/metalcore. it’s also the least christian of the TDWP’s back catalog, and i know they wanted to just make a fun zombie CD. i’ve heard snippets, but today i finally sat down and really listened. it’s actually a surprisingly fun EP. imagining an outrageous zombie apocalypse is one of the things our generation is actually BEST at. all of these songs are going in the list of “best songs for an actual zombie apocalypse”. the top of that list, however, still goes to the brandon bolmer-headed chiodos track, Those Who Slay Together Stay Together. that is a freaking killer [literally] song. video for that here: imagine listening to these songs while playing zombie run. imagine…… cheers, and happy hunting… edit: this picture cracks me up. edit edit: i seriously can’t help but grin at jeremy depoyster’s back hauling a gun. hilarious somebody has got to appreciate my phone background. i know the devil wears prada is a band that strives to not be in the way of their message, but mikey hranica is definitely someone i truly look up to. from the way he writes and sings to the way he and the rest of the prada boys are certain, confident, even, in what they believe in every way they believe it, they are some real heroes of mine. they also write sick music. it is my firm belief that for most genres, especially those dependent on lyrics, christians should be at the forefront of the respective style. it’s pretty true for metal, post-hardcore, screamo, rock, and pop rock/pop punk. fellas like prada aren’t the only ones. demon hunter, underoath, august burns red, switchfoot, and relientk are all bands that are almost undeniably at the front lines of their genres. these are truly talented brothers with truly divine gifts. maybe one day i’ll join the ranks. i say this all the time. kids need more role models. we need more role models. i need more role models. cheers, edit: this smile he’s cheesin out with is definitely my signature smile. and i’m missing part of the same tooth. coincidence? i have a very great respect for levi benton, the 21 year old monstrosity that captains miss may i. the band is young, both as a group and as individual musicians, but that hasn’t stopped the ohio metal band from striking out and making a name for themselves. i’m told they were more or less discovered by the devil wears prada, and they used that friendship as leverage to help themselves get out there faster. that’s not to say that benton and the gang used that relationship, because the five members of miss may i hold their own. seriously. i can’t believe some of the sounds that come out of levi’s voice. he is a beast of a frontman, with vocal power comparable to the older, more seasoned powerhouse christian screamer, august burns red’s jake luhrs [another musician i admire and respect greatly]. check out altpress’ quick little video with benton, link below. a little treat for true MMI fans, the full upcoming record, At Heart, completed and mixed and ready to release, is featured on his phone. viewers get a quick look at the song titles, which is an awesome glimpse. the actual record drops on june 12th. http://www.altpress.com/aptv/video/levi_benton_miss_may_i_iphone HEY! edit. the new track Day By Day, from the upcoming record, can be heard here: new music on new music on new music. mthemes domain was triggered too early. this is…@tdwpband’s Kansas.
literally, the greatest instrumental i’ve ever heard. the first time i played it i almost soiled myself during the sound byte, a sermon by paul washer on the judgment of God and the Great White Throne.
the sermon link is below if you want to listen in.
