in light of my recent-ish breakup i guess this isn’t the healthiest song to listen to, but sometimes i just need A Day To Remember’s fiery angry songs and jeremy mckinnon’s huffy bear growl to get through a tough night.

ADTR was, along with Four Year Strong, my gateway drug to “popcore” or “easycore” or whatever you want to call it. in my book, it’s any amount of metal influence in pop music. FYS of old was on the lighter side, incorporating mostly breakdowns, double bass drum fills and the occasional scream, while ADTR sometimes goes full out screaming verses into catchy hooks, choruses, and bridges. either way, it’s an amazingly enticing genre, and one i hope to emulate in worship music soon.

but enough rambling. if you haven’t seen it, the mini-movie for 2nd Sucks is here:
[song starts at about 2:37]…. FIGHT

freakin rage-fueled. RAGING. i am clearly still amazingly bitter about a lot of things from that relationship. it’s a work in progress, i guess.

cheers….soon.

—-edit. if you haven’t seen this or haven’t seen it in a while like me…. FEAST. i love when mike [hranica] and jeremy just go AT IT haha. overall i just love this song.

the breakdown with the kids crabbing out with the instruments…priceless.

in a moment of weakness:

i bought the devil wears prada Zombie EP…. and the first season of new girl [freakin awesome show, btw.]

i’ve been watching an interview from around the time the EP was released. it’s awesome to see such down-to-earth, goofy guys who are all fun in person and mostly business onstage. that’s awesome to watch. considering mike and i are both missing the same tooth, i’ve felt a connection with him since i first saw him in a day to remember’s MV for I’m Made Of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of?

love these guys. i really look up to them and how much they strive to bring a good message to a dark genre.

edit: CHIPOTLE. hahaha, these guys are hilarious.

i’m told today is @kevinkeffinskaff’s birthday, of a day to remember.

aside from being one of the biggest names to join heavy influences and screaming to pop punk [call it what you will, but i stick to easycore and stay as far the freak away from “emo-pop” as possible. 1 because it’s inaccurate and 2 because it just sounds lame.], a day to remember is equal parts intensely emotional and unbelievably fun to listen to. especially while in a bad mood.

guitarist kevin skaff officially joined ADTR as a replacement for tom denney in 2009, when denney decided he needed to focus on his family and producing music. it looks like he is still somewhat involved in writing for ADTR though.

skaff’s current role is a lot more guitar than before, which is a bummer because that’s the last we’ve heard of skaff’s solid clean vocals in non-support roles…. but i’m more than happy with what skaff’s contributed to the last few records.

anyway, happy friday team. here’s a quick vid of skaff in four letter lie. again, surprisingly good voice, which is unfortunately a little more than can be said for the lyrics.
