just so it’s clear, wolves at the gate will probably be my breakout heavy band of 2011 AND 2012. there’s very little like what they’re doing at the caliber they’re doing it. this video is beautiful.

cheers.

how the freak did i miss the gaslight anthem’s video for 45?!

dude. this is making a strong case for song of the year in my opinion. a really, really, really freakin strong case.

brian fallon, you are unstoppable. his energy, drive, and unbeatable voice put him at the forefront of strong frontmen.

enjoy the vid. i did, and i still am. this song is amazing.

WELCOME BACK TO LIFE, CAPITAL LIGHTS! this is Coldfront Heatstroke, a track from the upcoming record Rhythm N’ Moves set for a july 17th release date.

this song is… pretty good. the thing with powerpop is that every song tends to sound the same, and that was kind of the case for their previous LP, This is an Outrage.

granted, that same sound was a GOOD sound, but hearing so much of it in a row can make everything blend together. this is a welcome change from their earlier sounds: still poppy and powerpoppy, but with a little more depth and tastes of different genres. at heart, it’s still powerpop, and so the lyrics are a little empty here and there, but overall a good release from a band i am SO excited to see back together.

for old times’ sake, here’s one of the previous videos for Outrage. just…fun to listen to.

cheers,

EDIT: i need to say this. bassist frontmen are awesome. AWESOME. i’m lookin’ at you, nate henry.

this song has been overplayed to death, but wow. i enjoy jimmy fallon, and everyone who likes music should at least have a healthy respect for the roots.

i’d also like to take this time to say that there’s really no reason for the bassist to be in the original video. there is minimal noticeable bass.

carly rae jepsen, you’ve made a hit a hit twice over with this one, but jimmy really makes the vid. the classroom instruments are a perfect touch. especially, and i mean ESPECIALLY, the kazoo.

also, if you haven’t seen this… SIKE!

new songs on new songs: the word alive dropped a new lyric video for Entirety today. i’ve followed telle’s career for a while… maybe not as a fan and more of a curious observer. i first heard of him as part of greeley estates, and i know there was some drama there and one way or another he ended up heading TWA as he does now.

this is a great track. not sure if telle ever walked away from his faith, lost it, has kept it, or never had any challenges with it, but i could see this being a nod to that. but i digress. great song, great band.

the new TWA album, Life Cycles, is slated for a july 3rd release.

the biggest “about freakin time” return to writing new music: pierce the veil. not everyone is a fan of vic fuentes’ fiery clean vocals, but i think he’s plenty talented. he pulls beautifully effortless bloodcurdlers in and out of a confident and unique voice.

i’ve loved pierce the veil for a long time. their particular brand of emotion-fueled post-hardcore is a comfortable balance of screaming and singing backed with talented musicianship and numerous musical nods to the fuentes brothers’ hispanic heritage.

it’s been almost exactly two years since Selfish Machines was released [june 2010] and i am unbelievably excited to hear what the boys put out next. this track in particular, King For A Day, is stunning. showcasing all of what’s good and loveable about the previous record but undeniably forward looking. for all the confidence and rage of this song, i’ll even forgive them for the three seconds of dub.

kellin quinn’s guest appearance is a great touch, though it can be hard to distinguish him from vic at times. who cares. i love them both. i can’t wait. i cannot. wait.

cheers,

edit: after a few more listens, i have to add this. but wow, kellin and vic are both wunderkinds. WOW.

HEY, REMEMBER THIS?! pt. 2

i found this video after having a little chat on twitter with one of the harp and lyre guys, clay. he pointed out that FM Static’s first album and Hawk Nelson’s Letters to the President both came out 8 [EIGHT?!] years ago. freakin classic. i can’t believe i was in middle school then. unbelievable.

i first heard this song when i was a huge fan of trevor mcnevan’s other band, thousand foot krutch. i loved the rap/rock vibe and the songs were catchy enough, but when i heard trevor was heading a side project that was more pop-punk, i was definitely intrigued. FM Static put out some solid tracks… of which this is probably still one of my favorites. super catchy chorus hooks and classic high school drama together, who’s winning? this guy.

cheers,

edit: i spy a sweet blue strat with a single duncan invader. AWESOME. haha

edit 2: this video kind of reminds me of blink’s all the small things video. just for the sheer absurdity of it. haha

@dividedbyfriday just dropped a video for the title track from their EP Prove It.

as far as i’m concerned, divided by friday is making big steps for such a young group. solid musicianship, good writing, and confident vocals usually add up to success, and i’m hoping the best for these guys. frontman jose villanueva has vocal traces of ryan dominguez [of Tokyo Rose] and of course, pat stump. some say he’s got a bit of brendon urie going as well, but i’m not quite so familiar with panic!.

the 4 piece is on hopeless records working on a full-length, or that’s what i hear. definitely looking forward.

check the video and tell me what you think. i think it’s a great start for a promising young act.

as an aside, it’s also always good to see some diversity. haha

a brand brand new lyric video from @yellowcard, Always Summer. i’m told this is the first single from the upcoming summer album.

yellowcard has always been a workhorse band, and the fact that they reunited less than a year ago and already have a full length, an acoustic version, quite a few excellent music videos, and another album in the works is more than can be said of a lot of other groups.

i’m pretty excited where yellowcard goes. When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes was an amazing, amazing album considering the guys hadn’t been together in a few years, and this looks to be a similarly strong second-sophomore effort. alright ryan…show me what you’ve got.

edit: i forgot to say. i am SO glad the violin work has really been allowed to shine. it’s been one of the yellowcard staples, and sean mackin seems to get better with every new track.

cheers,
